Going to the beach alone?

I finally got around to going to the beach today. I went alone but it didn't bother me. I wore my Arena red swim briefs and just relaxed. It was really nice, this was the first time that I actually wore my Speedo 90% of the time when I was there, I mainly just tanned while reading my book but I went in the water for a bit to rinse the sand off before I left. I didn't get any flak from people, I got a few looks but I didn't mind. It was nothing like I thought would happen. I figured I would go on a day like this during the weekday as to avoid the crowds and it worked, there were a few people there but not too many. I had a good time and was glad that I had the confidence to just wear my speedo suit. I plan on going on Monday as to see if there are less people at the beach. Now all I need is a beach friend!

Any who to the guys that are afraid to go and wear their speedo, its not that bad. The worst part is sitting there waiting when to pull your shorts off and just wear the speedo. That was the hardest part for me but I did it. I am no means confident enough to wear it out in a large crowd but I figured small steps in the right direction cant hurt.

I'd love to go to the beach with you guys. And I'm not gay but enjoy being around guys with that wiry, lean but muscular "swimmers body" because it reminds me of the swim team days, and I like being looked at by those who admire good male physique. As I do. At 56 I still have it, pretty much, most definitely when compared to modern "average" for sure. You guys are who I want to relate to, be seen with.
I never get any harassment for wearing my speedo at a public pool.

I cant believe how attitudes to speedos has changed so much in the last 20 years or so. When I was younger all guys wore speedos or brief swim trunks or briefs and nobody batted an eyelid. I haven't wore my briefs on the beach for a few years but when I do go next time and want to swim I don't want baggy shorts dragging around my body - its so good to swim in the briefest speedo type swimwear and they dry so much quicker too.
I thought we had left behind the Victorian era when a bit of exposed flesh was seen as sinful - lets get into the 21st century and enjoy the freedom a speedo gives us!!

I was at my sisters house for 4th of July. The situation is getting worse in my opinion. My young nephew (10 yrs old) got in the pool wearing boards and a rash guard! The pool area wasn't sunny! Now that I think about it, I was there one time and my nephew had a few friends over and they all wore rash guards. The victorian era swim wear for men seems to be back for another generation.

Wow you look great Texas_swimmer! I'm really proud of you for taking the step to wear your speedo at the beach. Once you do it you realize it's no big deal. Keep it up!

That's more a precaution against excessive UV rays (even on overcast days), not a reaction against showing off one's body. And nowadays, parents are more protective of their children than ever before, so I'm not surprised. I think everyone in general is trying to be more aware of excessive sun exposure. Which is in direct conflict to us lovers of tiny swimsuits and lots of exposed skin.

If anyone could invent a TRULY waterproof sunscreen that we could slather on and it would last all day and we could also go swimming, snorkeling and diving all day and it would be as effective when we exit the water as it is when we got into the water, that company would make a hell of a lot of money. Or better yet, a pill or shot we could take that would protect us against UV damage... that would make as much money as Viagra in my opinion.

I think you hit on two things... UV scare tactics and money! The chemical companies want everyone to run around scared of the sun, buying their "solution."

Truth is, humanity evolved in the outdoors, awash in the sun. It is healthy. Studies show that office workers have higher incidence of skin cancers than outdoor workers! Even if you accept that UV exposure may increase the rate of skin cancer (which is easily detectable and treatable), it is balanced by the 19 types of internal cancers (which are hard to detect and treat) that were statistically reduced with UV exposure.

So... Enjoy the Sun! Spread the word!

No Melanoma, skin cancer or health organisation in Australia supports that argument. It was reported last year I think by somebody and it was universally condemned as being negligent. This wasn't by the manufacturers, this was by professionals.

I've read the medical journals. You can make up your own mind.

But let's look at one bit of fact... sunscreen use has SKYROCKETED over the last 40 years. Logic would say that if UV was the problem, the skin cancer rates would have gone down as a result. But, that has NOT happened. Skin cancer rates have gone up along with the advice to slather your skin with chemicals. Hmmm.....

The sun had already set far enough that the house blocked the sunlight from hitting anywhere near the pool area.

That said, our government believes that climate change is all conspiracy theory too and admittedly 3% of climate scientists agree with him.

It is just like buy that first speedo in the store, walking up to the cashier with the small suit, you hand it over, she scanned it, and it is all over, just like pulling down the shorts, your handing over that first moment of displaying yourself in the only proper swimwear out there...and more power to you!

Since you're in Texas, have you ever been to Hippie Hollow just outside of Austin? Wearing a speedo there is considered modest, so you would certainly fit in. I tend to have to work up my courage when I go to the point where I eventually feel comfortable enough to strip it off and swim naked. I never feel awkward in a speedo there. If you've never been, it's worth the trip to Austin (guaranteed).
