What is the lining in the speedo for? And what difference does it make if you cut it out?

Tale of caution cut the liner out of a new Speedo in high school for a pool party. Two girls pulled my suit apart underwater.

I got a tan-through speedo from kiniki that came with a mesh liner, but only in the front. It didn't seem too substantial and the pattern on the suit made it so it would be hard to see any details. I cut the liner out, and tbh I don't think the suit looks any different. Still not see-through when wet. Although the fabric is a little rough. I probably won't wear this one that much.

I've never had any suits that were "fully lined", front and back, like the TYR 2-inch suits. Is it possible to remove the lining from suits like that, or does it leave the suit baggy and stretched out?
