Of course I swam today. But what's newsworthy is that of the six lanes occupied by two gals and four guys, four were wearing briefs. That's right, one hundred percent compliance with proper swim attire code. I think that's a first. I'm not always the only one swimming laps in a speedo on Sunday morning, but this is unheard of.

I've thought to give this old thread a bump and a re-start after more than 2 years instead of starting a new one.
Besides tanning and feel-good in our speedos they are the best fitting to swim in for sport reasons.
Today I've started my swim-season for this year at an indoor-pool with a lot of laps.
I started with
500 m (20 × 25 m), then
1000 m (40 × 25 m) in about 25 minutes, later again
300 m (12 x 25 m) in about 9 minutes.
(I couldn't take the time correctly)

How are you preparing for summer?

Lately my workout has been 10 x 100 free on 3:00 sendoff. Taking a second off the time every week. Holding 1:14s this week.
Wears me out. I use a TomTom unit to monitor my heart rate, a very handy tool for determining how hard I'm pushing it. I can get it up to 155, which is plenty. It comes down to 95 before the next sendoff, which is great.

So Yesterday morning:

4 x 200m (100 crawl, 100 anything inspires you at the moment)

400 (increase speed every 50 up to max the last 50)
200 easy
4 x 50m (max)
100 easy
2 x 100 (max)
100 easy
200 (max)
100 easy
400 (max)
100 easy

Off course, the max speed during a 400 is less fast than in a 50 or 100, if you want to keep the pace ;). Oh and I was wearing a black endurance + speedo, similar to the one on my avatar.

Swim half mile to a mile every day. More than a mile and a half on weekends.

Tonight we tried 6 x 200 on 5:00 sendoffs. I held at 2:50-3:01, just barely out of the ten second difference max that Coach asked for. I wanted more rest time between swims. Coach said no. This is hard on us old people! Heart rate got to 146 so it is a little easier than the ten 100's I've been doing.

First time in the pool today in several years (why has it been so long?). Frog kick is a recommended part of my rehab after hip surgery a month ago. My leg is definitely weak (and hurt a bit) compared to what I remember the last time I was swimming. My shoulders are also telling me this afternoon that they go worked in different ways, too. I swam 30 25-yard lengths, in sets of two with a brief rest between. I felt so slow, but had to start somewhere. I was the only guy in a swim brief (Sporti Euro in black).

When I swim I swim either a quarter, half or full mile depending on how much time I have. I just swim freestyle without any break periods and I pace myself to not get out of breath.

Warm up then 5x100m efforts then 300 m steady. Didn’t want to overdo it as I was down for a hard running session later in the day

1050m open water. Water temp still in single figures here (low 40s Fahrenheit) wetsuit, gloves etc essential!

Got back in the pool today and did the following

400m swim
300m pull
200m kick
4 x 25 sprints on 30 seconds

Repeated twice.

Overall 2000m. Felt amazing afterwards but a bit disappointed my swim fitness is not where it used to be. I'm so glad I started this thread years ago I'm looking at old sets and writing them all down so I can get back to Speedo fitness in the pool! :D

This was this week's workout and pretty typical for my Masters class.
Warm Up
200m free
200m kick
200m IM
200m kick

Free HIT - Ladder
200m easy on :5
100m build on :10
50m fast on :15
50m easy on :5
100m build on :10
200m hard/fast on :15
repeat x2

IM
2x100m Swim (rotate the 100)
100m Kick
2x100m Swim (rotate the 50)
100m Pull

Swim-down
400m Choice

Total=3200m in about 1:20 hrs or so.

I also supplement 1500m-2500m in between classes at least 2-3 times a week during the summer & when I can get to the pool. I am pretty lucky that we are members at a Olympic size pool during the summer which makes counting easy.
