Hit on by a married guy @ the pool?

Post by DaveSpeedoEvans » Fri May 26, 2017 1:35 pm

G'day guys,

Today at the pool this guy came over and started talking to me, seemed a little awkward but I guessed he was trying to pick me up. He left his business card and told me to call him for a swim or for a post swim beer.

So I looked him up, and he is married.

Maybe I read the whole thing wrong and he is just looking for a swimming buddy?

I wrote about it in detail over my blog - http://www.AussieSpeedoGuy.org

Dave

PS - He was wearing these AussieBum XS speedos (I was wearing my AB Portseas) and he used AussieBums as the conversation ice breaker.

As a straight guy, I would never talk to another man at the pool unless it was to ask nuts and bolts things about our laps, like, "do you mind if I share your lane?" or "do you know what time the pool closes?" I would certainly never talk to another guy about his swimwear (but I'm also American and we're prudes).

Methinks this guy isn't 100% straight... maybe he's bi-curious?

My advice is to wait. If he's interested in hooking up with you he'll pursue it further. Just be cordial to him next time you see him and let things happen.

52dno98,

Thanks for the kind words mate, I am definitely on the same page as you when it comes to talking to random people at the pool. Particularly when he brought up how much he loves AussieBums.

I don't have the courage or the insight to make a 'move' so I think I'll just play it by ear, go to the pool at about the same time and see what happens when we run into each other again. If he is 'interested' in me, I'm sure he is nervous as hell too.

I haven't never started a convo with anyone. But others had with me at the most awkward time in the change room too -_-

Sounds like flirting to me. As a straight guy the last thing I would do if I was looking for a new mate to go the pub with would be approach a guy at the pool and talk about his speedos.

If I did however want to talk to a guy at the pool about his speedos, and catch up after a swim, but didn't want to give the wrong impression I would casually drop something into the conversation like "I'm looking for a swim buddy because my wife doesn't swim" or something similar.

Interesting...

I agree that it seems he was trying to pick you up. However I don't have an issue with talking to guys at the gym, pool, or hot tub. While people are generally too busy to talk while lifting weights or swimming, the hot tub is a place where people do a lot of talking about a multitude of topics. Swimwear however not one of them. I'd much rather talk to guys in the hot tub than just sit there and ignore everyone.

It seems though that I too often end up getting into the standing naked in the locker room conversations with friends or aquantences. The sort where I've just taken my swim suit off and someone comes up and starts talking to me. I'm left holding my speedo in front of me while the conversation goes on for ten or fifteen minutes before I can get showered and dressed. I guess I should just put my suit down and stand there in full glory until the other person feels awkward enough to let me get on with what I'm doing. I don't mind being seen naked in the locker room but I don't really want to introduce my fun parts to my friends.

Only once have I felt like men were trying to pick me up while in a hot tub. Many years ago shortly after we were married my wife and I were at a hotel. I went to the pool by myself and swam laps then sat in the hot tub. Two men joined me in the hot tub and started talking to me. I don't remember what the conversation was but I felt by the personal nature of the questions they were asking me that they wanted to get to "know me" better. It creeped me out so I soon left and went back to my room.
