In an interview, Chris said everyone including the film crew was naked on the island. The producers and director didn't want him or Brooke to have tan lines that they obviously wouldn't have if they were on a deserted island, and it was hot, so they were more comfortable that way..

You're right. Blue Lagoon pushed a lot of limits. Brooke Shields was 15!!! I don't think you could make that film today with actors that young. I read where they used body doubles for some of the nude scenes. Atkins double was one of the pilots that flew them to the island for filming. Imagine someone coming up to you and saying, "Hey would you like to get paid to be an extra to swim naked?" I would have jumped at the chance.

Anyway, here's Atkins in his loincloth. The less clothes he wore, the more confident he got.

In his later films, when he was older, he had clearly gone to the gym and had developed more definition. Christopher Atkins is still alive and has been in a number of films. He seems like a genuinely decent person. He gives generously of his time to charity events. People only have good things to say about him.

I saw Blue Lagoon when it was released. I thought it was a sweet film. I notice our county library has a DVD copy in the permanent collection. It's stood the test of time. Probably better regarded now than when it was released.

Here's a picture of Chris Atkins, possibly when he was a sailing instructor, before he went into movies. Probably a nylon speedo. I had a couple pairs like this, a solid color with a contrasting splice. I think the last one I remember was blue with a white splice. This pic shows the wide sides of that era.

Christopher Atkins played a lifeguard in the series Dallas in the eighties...His character was definitely heterosexual.

That's for sure--His character ended up being lovers with JR's wife Sue Ellen, twice his age plus! The young oversexed Ewing, Lucy, had a private talk with her: "I've thrown myself at him all summer, and he won't even look at me. You don't think he's gay or something do you?

Atkins was part if a show called "I Was a Teen Idol", where aging male stars get a chance to rehab their career. He was probably the most likable cast member, and definitely the most fondly remembered by the ladies.

Chris was never shy at all. I have lots of pictures of him from movies and photo sessions where he is totally naked showing full frontal and rear views.......................even more recent more "senior" pictures like these.

Well, Chris has kept a very nice almost boyish figure all these years. Must have great genetics, in addition to taking care of himself. Good for him!

I agree. He'd really worked to develop his body for that film. I saw it on VHS quite a while ago.

Over his lifetime, Chris Atkins has taken care of himself, and has shown how beautiful a man's body can be. I've always found that there was something very genuine about the man starting with those early speedo pictures when he was a sailing instructor up to the present day. Judging from his later pictures, he's aged far, far less from the neck down than the neck up. I don't have his physique and never have. But I've also found that I've aged more in my facial features than the rest of me.
