American Guys in Speedos

Post by DaveSpeedoEvans » Wed Feb 27, 2019 3:04 pm

G'day guys,

Kip and I were up early this morning and went for a morning snowboard, I then swung by the pool for some laps and you guys wouldn’t believe it… there wasn’t just one other guy in speedos but....

TWO AMERICAN GUYS WEARING SPEEDOS IN PUBLIC!!!!

I couldn’t believe it. One guy was early 40’s, slim but looked great in his black speedo brand speedos. The second guy who I only noticed when I got out of the pool was maybe late 20’s and looked like a mountain man from what I could see. Tall, big arms, light beard/facial hair. I couldn’t see what speedo he was wearing but it was red on the bum and he was doing perfect tumble turns so he must have done some swimming in his past. Unfortunately I was beat after swimming a mile and a half (108 length of the pool) and he had just gotten in so I couldn’t really loiter in the change rooms for that long without looking like a weirdo. Tomorrow I will try and time it so I am there at the same time.

Or…. if that guy happens to be reading this forum, please drop me a line and say g’day.

Those are the first speedos I’ve seen in public since I arrived here in the USA. When was the last time you saw speedos in public?

I got into back into lap swimming 4 years ago, wore shorts the first day, then Speedos ever since... Mostly Solar 1”, and Sporti Euro. I have 2 Arena “Memetic” suits, and 2 Sporti Modern Camo poly briefs. I rotate them so they last longer.

I see speedos at the lap pool just about everyday that I’m there. Now, it’s not a majority of the guys but usually two or three besides me. And all of the HS swimmers that swim at the pools I swim at are swimming in either swim briefs or briefs with a square cut training suit over them (but that’s usually just one or two out of 16-20 swimmers). So on a morning lap swim day when there is guys HS practice, there are a lot of speedos!

If I had to put a number of adult male lap swimmers I see in speedos in a pool during lap swim at any given time, I'd call it 25%. 2 in 8, 1 in 4. Of course that is counting me also. 8) Not a majority, but not unknown/extinct by a longshot.

I concur that a majority of high school/teenage male swim team members I see are practicing in briefs. A good trend.

Most of the high schoolers and college guys at my gym are wearing speedos. A few are in jammers. Adults in speedos are more rare, maybe 1 in 10.

Well, everyone at the pool at my gym saw a man in as speedo today, me. I’ve only seen one other man at my gym who wears a speedo. However I don’t go in the early morning when more swimmers would be there. I’d say that most places I swim with serious swimmers will have men in speedos.

I was at the pool today 5 other guys in Speedos beside me. The pool I swim host a lot of swims meets and other water-related sports so speedos are very common.

Hey guys

Great to hear more and more speedos being worn - I was in Breckenridge at the Rec Center so that is why it was weird to see anyone in speedos apart from me.

Back in Aussie seeing someone lap swimming in the morning wearing dork shorts would be weird - 50% speedos 50% jammers of some sort. Lots of guys wearing a shorter jammer which is good to see.... one step closer to speedos!!!

I decided to be an American in a Speedo for my Central America holiday. The only shorts for me = shorter length (5" inseam is my go-to) and for the beach any shorts come off. Speedo times are the best!

One comment that struck my attention was made about what seems to be more younger kids (hs and college) wearing speedos to swim and less adults?!?! Has the new generation embraced speedos/briefs - at least moreso than the 30-50 crowd?

Hello
Good improvements. But perhaps a good measure would be to impose a no board shorts rule at pools, only speedo or square cuts, eventually jammers. Cheers
