I had a strange Aussiebum Wonderjock waistband fail, today.

After wearing, I rinse my swimsuits in cold water, or if soaked in sunscreen lotion, I'll handwash with cold water and simple hair shampoo, and lay them out flat to dry over night.

Over the decades, of course, I have had suits wherein the Lycra material and/or the elastic waistband just got old and gave up.
Saggy, droopy, sad.

This was a first:

This morning, I put on an old, (ten year, maybe) long time in the drawer Aussiebum 100% nylon 2.5" Classic and the elastic waistband gave that awful *stretching-tearing* sound of dying lycra.

Weird thing is, it stuck to my skin, hard! I took three very uncomfortable steps and took the suit off.
I had to peel the waistband away and it left BLACK, sticky/gummy residue around my waist.

Like tree sap, so tenacious. It took lots of hard scrubbing with oil soap to get it off.

Have any of you experienced this with an old swimsuit.?

Yikes. That's awful. Agree with ...:::sam:::... that there might have been some kind of catalytic reaction going on.
