How much would you pay?

Post by SpeedoDan » Wed Feb 24, 2021 10:47 am

This has probably been asked in the past, but I'm curious, what's the most you would pay for a pair of swim briefs?

Also how did you come to this decision? any feedback would be really interesting...

AU$30, which gets perfectly good Speedos which are best for years of lap swimming usage. They have the fabric down perfect for long durability.

My favorites are actually AU$12 AliExpress stuff though they don't last very long in the chlorine and sun.

I think the most I've spent is £20, but I tend to look for offers and order a fair amount from china, and so normally I'm not spending more than £10. I'm a bit of a cheapskate I'm afraid.

Honestly, a good pair is hard to come by for me. If the fit and look is right, probably $150-200.

Trance, $150-$200? Are you more into the designer brands? Not the brands like speedo but Versace? I was gutted I have just paid £52 for a pair by Speedo for a replica pair of the Olympics speedo they will wear.

Neither, really. But yes, designer sometimes. Also being from Canada things are more expensive. Factor in shipping, maybe even customs fees, and it's easily $150 if the price was 80 USD.

But for lap swimming I prefer Arena.

It averages US$35, plus shipping. The range is US$15 to US$50. The lower end of the range represents really good discounts on higher end brands. I try to find something comfortable and durable that looks good.

Most I paid was around $75 and it was for a Parke and Ronen suit. There was a lot of debating but I pulled the trigger on it because it is going to be the suit for a big vacation we are taking. I also have a drawer full of Arena suits that cost $7- $10 that I picked up during their annual warehouse sale. Those are the suits I wear to regularly to the pool and for Masters. The more expensive ones I only wear to the beach and ocean and I keep them out of chlorine.

You guys would be shocked how much collectable Arena or Mizuno suits go for in Japan! Try around $150 USD and up, and even more if they are bespoke design, or you have a team suit with picture of you wearing it at a meet! I was offered almost $500 USD for one of my Mizuno Mighty Lines team suits that have been out of production for 5 years now. With over 100 suits in my collection now I seriously think I need to get insurance...but how would I convince an insurance agent to write a policy for them LOL!

@SammyKyoupan Hahaha.

---

Personally I wouldn't pay more than 40 EUR (44 USD) for a swim suit, maybe 50 EUR (55 USD) if it is a really nice one.

Just found this Arena brief at Outdoor Outlet (San Francisco CA area) on a sale rack for US$12, marked down from $24. It's my first Arena suit. I usually would't go for something with a big name on it, but I liked the style, and you hardly ever see Arenas on the racks around here. I didn't even know that Arena was a thing until I started up on this forum.

I've been a pretty loyal Speedo (capital S) customer and usually get them when they have sales, from $20 to $35. I did buy one on ebay once that I wanted for its discontinued pattern, bid it up to $38, when it had been originally $44 from Speedo.

All of my speedos costed roughly 15 to 30 USD, so that's generally the most I'm willing to pay.

It depends. I usually get mine from www.swimoutlet.com and they have various specials. Usually $30.00 is the most I would spend on a speedo.

My max is $40. I've noticed a lot of swimwear companies jacking up their prices lately, likely because they see the inflation headlines and know they can get away with it... but I'm fine not shopping if they want to play that game. Some of the 'luxury' brands like Aronik are charging $90 USD... for something I am going to get sunscreen on and leave in the sun on the clothesline... no thanks!
