New from Southern England

Post by Nomad26 » Tue Jan 01, 2013 11:44 am

Hi everyone.

I've just started swimming again (wearing aquashorts at the moment - planning on moving to speedos when i get a bit faster) and had forgotten how much i enjoy wearing swim wear.

good to see there are a few over uk guys who feel the same way!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had this frame of mind. I thought that if I was to wear briefs to the pool - i'd have to back it up by actually being good at swimming haha so I too started off wearing aquashorts and then when I improved (and earned it!!) started to wear briefs ha

Glad to have you on board, mate!

Oh, that's a discouraging thought! So far in my initial swimming I am half as fast as the slowest people in the pool. So I don't "deserve" the speedo look but I am intending to boldly wear what's enjoyable anyway. Hmm, I wonder what that will make people think about my motivations; I hope I'm not signalling something I don't intend to...

I think it came out wrong on my behalf. It's the way I personally felt towards myself - I don't look at others and think "What's that guy doing? Wearing briefs and he can hardly swim?" but I always had a thought in my head that people were thinking that about me, which is why I didn't wear them when I was just starting.

I didn't mean to discourage, I apologise.

Actually I was thinking I want to apologize to Nomad26. This is his "G'day" thread, so it should be all about welcoming him rather than getting caught up in my own feelings. (I probably deep down share exactly the same feeling both of you were stating.)

So, welcome Nomad26! I hope your approach gives you a good payoff in exercise motivation and then you can enjoy your reward.

Thanks or the welcome guys.

Briefs55, maybe you're right and i should just go for it. i think i'll switch to briefs next time i'm at the pool, i'll let you know how it goes.

As for motivation, i think i'll treat myself to new suit - maybe even one of the japanese cut arenas when i make it to the fast lane!

Hi, Nomad26, and welcome! I learned to swim rather later than most, in my late 20s, now 54, and I have to say not much 'faster' but I am steady. Glad you're aboard!

Hi Nomad26, how's your swimming going. I followed the voters of my gday "help me choose" post and have been wearing the smaller brief in my (so far not very regular) visits to the pool. Except one day everyone else has been in jammers, and I admit it feels a bit silly to be in the smallest brief and swim slower that everyone else in the pool. Yesterday the guy in the lane was literally going 2 laps for every one of mine. But I trust it's all in my head so I intend to stick with it.
