Try wikitravel.org and search under Australia or a specific Australian city. Or go to google and search up gay community in Australia. Hope that helps. I was in Sydney in 2003, had a great time. Too bad Imy curiosity was barely coming out.

Re: Planning trip downunder, need your help
I find it hard to believe that no one here in this forum has been able to offer help to a fellow member. I know there are members here from Australia. Stop being selfish and offer some help. He's not asking for money.
I was pissed off too when NO ONE replied to my post, "Any members in Baltimore, MD?" I don't like seeing that happen to another member of this forum.

Re: Planning trip downunder, need your help
When people say we are a big country we are approx similar in size to the USA (very roughly) and the entire nation is surrounded by sea. All capital cities are coastal cities and have decent beaches within and hour of the city centers. The exception to this is the national capital which is probably a more meaningful trip for domestic tourists than international tourists. It's not like a Washington or a London. But I digress.
The next thing you need to know is we are heading in to winter. We are not an all year summer paradise. So from now to about October you won't be sunning on the beach south of Queensland. And in lower QLD you may be disappointed. However the upper part of the country will be coming out of it's humid wet season into a warmer dry season.
Beaches across the top quarter of the country are inhabited by increased wild life including crocodiles. So rule them out when you look at the map. Most beach activity in the country is seen from Cairns on the east down to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart across to Adelaide then Perth in the west and up to Broome ... Before you hit crocodile territory again.
Most of the population live on the eastern mainland between Brisbane and Melbourne. The shortest distance between cities is an hour by jumbo the maximum about 7-8 (Brisbane to Perth ... Probably less).
If you want a gay old holiday. Probably best you visit in February between Brisbane and the Gold Coast and down to Sydney for the annual Gay Madi Gras.
If you come between now and October bring a coat a beanie and some gloves if you plan to travel south of Brisbane.
In the mean time start googling. There are some gay resorts in Queensland that may be able to assist you more (look up Turtle Cove and Skinny Dips).
Good luck.

Re: Planning trip downunder, need your help
Yeah, seriously... gay friendly? Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. Done.
Your question was a little open ended.

I can't talk about other cities, but in melbourne, the most 'gay' suburbs are centred around Collingwood or Prahran, but it all depends what you're into, what you want to see.
Honestly... go wherever and enjoy the country, don't get hung up on 'gay friendly' places; we're all relatively nice.
I suggest coming (to melbourne at least) in late spring: Oct or Nov - cold mornings but warm days/evenings.
Sydney will be slightly warmer and Brisbane will be beautiful.
