Do you guys wear speedos when swimming or at the beach with family?
I will be spending some time at the beach with my family this summer and want to try wearing my speedo to tan. I’ve never worn them around any of my family, only certain friends. I want to get used to always wearing speedos when doing swimming/beach activities. Just wondering if I should just go for it and wear speedos or just keep the speedos for my own personal use and wear shorts around family?
Also curious if you guys have any advice to overcome the nerves or your own experiences to share?

Don't make a big deal of it. Just do it and act normal.

Go for it.

Have confidence and laugh off any initial shock or comments from the fam. People very quickly get used to things. If you're comfortable, they will be comfortable with it in no time.

It's a swimsuit. Just wear it. I began wearing a swim brief in college some 50 years ago and neither my former spouse, my kids, or my current spouse have ever seen me wear anything else for swimming.

Go full speed(o) ahead! If nervous, dive in the water & swim awhile. It'll be fine!

The hardest part will be the first time you wear a speedo around them. You might get reactions. But after that, if you keep wearing speedos, they will get used to it and won't say anything anymore. I've worn speedos around my immediate family (wife and kids) for years. They are so used to it that they never say anything, even though I'm usually the only person at the pool/beach in a speedo.

Every one of us has been in this situation. Im not saying its easy the first time or even second time but it does get easier every next time.
I’m not suggesting you strip to your swim brief in the parking lot but have it on under your shorts. When you find your spot on the beach take off your shorts like it’s no big deal….. because it isn't.
You’re at the beach. A speedo is appropriate swim wear. Show your confidence. Rock your speedo enjoy the water and the sun. No regrets

I have been wearing speedos for very little of time. Only when on holidays with wife. Now I go recreational swimming at the community pool. But I was bold December 2024, in laws decided to joinour beach vacation to Mexico one week before of departure. So, when we were at the hotel wife told me… not to wear a speedos because her parents …I was why not, and I did it, they say nothing, also, wife encouraged me to post photos on social media. She thought I look good. So I did post photos wearing a speedos. Now her two brother and wives had seen me on the beach with a speedos. My family have seen me only in photos too now. I didn’t get any criticism. It was thrilling yes. But feels good to be comfortable swimming or tanning or just walking along the beach. I would say go for it 100 %!!!!!

I would start by wearing your speedos under shorts, then when getting ready to sunbathe, just quietly slip the shorts off! They will soon get used to it.

I've wore speedos around family and friends my entire life. It felt limiting wearing shorts as a kid, so I almost never used them.

I guess you can start out saying you're going to tan and get more confortable with it in time, while also getting your family used to the idea.

Speedos and the gay or weird thing is a USA thing. Most of the rest of the world don't see it like that and don't think that much about it when they get worn. Just wear them as if you were wearing board shorts (or whatever you wear to the beach). It's when you're not relaxed or confident in them that you will look weird.

Unfortunately I wouldnt be as positive as Sam on this. In Europe (with some exceptions as Italy) speedos are seen as a bit weird and gay swimwear. That comes from the modesty and body self-conbunch of mediatic actors/athletes etc really using them consistently , which is not the case. Lets say Ronaldo used a couple of times something between a sunga and a square on his yacht and D.Beckham also used them a couple of times but that is not enough to create a "wave", ofc.
Fortunately that is not the cultural panorama in Australia! Thanks God!
But hey there are once in a while some good signs in the media. Lets see...once it is very hard to break non written social rules.

This being said I dont see any issue of challenging that non written rule (of being "modest" and use board shorts) anywhere in Europe and I never had issues with it. All goes smooth. But I understand that is tough to make the first kick and put a speedos on.
