Moderator Applications

Hey guys,

I've dedicated some time to work on the forum this week and there might be some pretty kewl changes made which hopefully you'll enjoy.

Spam on the forum is a bit of an issue but the moderators are doing a phenominal job in deleting crappy posts!!! I think we all owe a thanks to the moderators for keeping this forum spam free.

Since I'm making some changes I would like to ask you guys if you think anyone deserves the position of moderator. Moderators to this forum have to be regular posters, obviously they must like speedos and they have to be fair dinkum.

There are lots of people here whom I love their posts but NJHunkguy and Always are 2 guys that I would definitely put up for nomination as potential moderators (I haven't asked them so they might decline their nomination).

I'm happy to hear of any other potential nominations for moderators to this forum.

So you thank the moderators for doing a good job then you take away their jobs and offer them to someone else. You've got alot of class Dave!

Matt, I didn't take what Dave wrote as anything that would preclude any of the current moderators from staying on, and I certainly hope that some do... (some I've never seen online or posting, though...)

However, since Dave specifically mentioned Always, I guess I should add that I think he would be a great addition to the group!

Dave,

I am sure the changes will be cool. I also felt that most of the moderators did a great job with keeping the board clean of spam. I am not sure if it was a moderator problem or a software malfunction that led to posters having deletions, but that is in the past now.
If I can make one suggestion for future moderators in case I am not to be one of them, if you do have a reason to delete a post from someone, instead maybe of deleting in completely (except for spam), maybe put a little sentence in stating why it was edited or changed.
I.E. This photo was too young, or something to that effect.

Now I don't know how many nominations there can be but I have a few.

Scotty - He is on everyday and makes a great addition to the board, and has great comments

Matt - Excluding his above comment, I think he does a good job with his postings and would be a good addition

Always - I have always enjoyed he comments and photos. So he is a good nomination in my opinion

Jace - He did a great job while we were mods. together and asked for a 2nd opinion before making changes on here.

I also feel that bigbi and myself make good mods. but I am not sure if that is appropriate to nom. myself?.

Thats my two cents. Oh, I also agree they need to be regular posters, because the amount of spam that can show up on here in a day is huge!

I'd love to see spam filters that could stop all these crappy posts, it'd certainly free up a lot of time for posting and such.

I dont think that it was a moderator deleting the posts though.

Ok here are my nominations:

Always- He always contributes great pics to the board and gives us many new things to talk about.

Scotty- Very rarely is he signed off, and he contributes enormously to the daily posting on the board.

BigJay- He is a great moderator and his posts can be found all over the board daily.

Matt- He may be a little frustrated with what he thinks is happening, but he also contributes frequently to the posts, and the Truth or Dare page especially.

I also agree with bigJ, but Im not sure if it is ok to nominate oneself.

And i agree with J, if there should ever be a reason to edit a post by a legitimate, non-spam user, than it should be revealed why the post was edited/deleted. Although in all the cases I know about, there was no such reason for the deletion. And im hoping it was just a software glitch.

Although, having more moderators that are constantly online allows spam posts to be deleted quickly

Excellent points BigJay and BigBi.... an indication of any non-spam post deletions would be good... I've seen that type of thing used on other boards with good results. Further - there is really no discussion allowed - a moderators decision on something like that is final...

Also, having more mods (especially if they all think similarly) can help lessen the load among them all and serve to keep the board cleaner....

I know BigBi - I have a feeling that Dave will want to move quickly here (of course I could be wrong) but he's gonna want to keep the board up to its normally high spam-free standards and I don't think he's going to want to do it all himself...

Yeh definitely, one person just cant keep up with all these spam posters.

I just hope some of the other regular posters (such as, but not limited to... Jace, Matt, K, Always, Bikedude, Eric, MCOSpeedo, SBR, swimteam, rswimmer, NJHunkGuy etc. along with some of the newer guys as well...) let their opinions be heard soon too....

I agree with Dave, I think we all owe a thanks to the moderators for keeping this forum spam free.

A big thanks to those that are nominating me to be a new moderator too.

I am open to the idea of being a moderator here but I do have some questions and concerns about the job that need to be addressed before I even think about accepting a nomination.

First I need to know more about the coming changes Dave is planning to make. I would hate to be spending all my time here moderating a chat session instead of posting pics. Again it depends on what Dave has planned.

Second, I have no idea the full extent of what Dave has planned and since I do enjoy searching for and posting those pics of speedo clad guys everyone likes to see here I would hate to have less time for that activity.

Third, being a moderator seems to be an endless job. What I mean by that is, once you get the job it is yours until you either burn out and quit or Dave tires of you.

I think it would be a better idea to have teams of moderators that alternate off and on for fixed periods of time. Since most of us don't move with the seasons like Dave does, I think the changes should correspond with the changes in seasons. In other words, I have more time to participate during US Winters when I'm not outdoors as often as I am during US Summers. I am more inclined to accept the job as a moderator if it was for a fix lenght of time say during the winter in the US.

Over time I think the site would develop rotating teams of moderators consisting of experienced and new people keeping every one on the job and the site fresh. I am curious to know what others think of this idea of rotating moderators.

As for nominating people to be moderators here, I think people should be able to nominate themselves.

Ok, that's it for now.

Thanks everyone,
Always

Rotating moderators doesnt really make sense to me, I think it would be best just to have moderators that are on daily, even if its different times of the day, so that the spam can be zapped quickly, plus rotating the moderators seems like too much work from a software/ permissions perspective

Always does make a lot of good points, but BigBi is correct - the rotating idea may be difficult to work with from a site administration standpoint.

Of course as times change, moderators can and should come and go... but in general I think we need a solid core.

And as far as Always' point about seasonal stuff is concerned... by having a well rounded group of core moderators, we should always be able to have some cover for the others...

Anyway - I think that this discussion is awesome and has helped to bring up some very good points...

Matt,

I definitely did not 'sack' the current moderators.

Please re-read my post in that context. I'm working on figuring out why some posts are being removed and I think it is a software problem.

The current moderators are doing a great job and if they are happy to they are staying on for good.
