American Speedos suck :)

It's official. Speedos sold in the US all suck. I just received two pairs of briefs that I won on ebay. One is a white Solar 1", the other is a navy brief with Aussie sizing (14). The Solar is OK,but my new navy one looks much better, fits better and is just all around better made - SPEEDO is stitched in the hip, not a flimsy decal that will fall off in a week. In terms of sizing the two are very similar. Both had 2" sides, but the Aussie one rides a little lower on the hips. It doesn't have the contour pouch, but is still more comfortable.
When I swim laps at the pool I wear my Nike or Arena. The Speedo I bought in the sporting goods store hasn't gotten much use. It felt like wearing plastic wrap around my waist. Ugh, maybe more Americans would wear Speedos to the beach if they were more comfortable. Who wants to wear a suit that feels like a midget wrapping around your waist?
You Ozzies are pretty lucky

In other words, Speedos made in the US don't fit you as well as the Aussie ones. Your OPINION. You seem to think that Nike is the best fit suit since you wear it all the time. Personally, I think Nike suck. The materials aren't comfortable and if you are hung larger than a 10 year old, there is no room for your junk. Mine ended up in Goodwill.
On the subject of durability -- the Aussiebum Nylon I bought 5 years ago are faded and the seams are falling apart. The American Nylon Speedos I got from my father that he wore since the 70's are still in fantastic shape - not fading, elastic still taught and seams all in tact.
Your comments are just and OPINION based on your body and one comparison. It is not a statement of fact that is appropriate for everyone and should be stated as such.

I was stating my opinion about how they fit me,not fact. No need to get bent out of shape about it dude. You don't have to agree with me, but you don't have to come waving a torch either.

It's so individual. I have a U.S. Speedo Aquablade (not made anymore) which is so cool and sized like Asian. And I have a U.S. Speedo basic brief with three inch sides that doesn't fit as well. I also have a Thailand licensed Speedo in sort of a 70s print I bought last year that fits great. It's kind of trial and error.

Does anyone notice the difference between Justin88's comment and this one by tannedbum:

Who needs to work on constructive criticism? It's not Justin88.

Word.
I'd like to add to my first post, which was based on a first impression. I still need some time with the suits, but this is what I found; The Solar fabric feels much more durable. Thicker. Since it's white it's also lined in the front and back making it less stretchy. I'm okay with that and the quality feels good. I wore my AUS one yesterday and it was VERY comfortable. Didn't know it was there.
I'll give the Solar a more thorough test run this week. I may need a size smaller. It feels 'heavy' and more noticeable.
For the record; I've worn TYR, Speedo, Finals, Nike, Arena and Aussiebum suits and have found the US Speedos the most uncomfortable.
Really it's just my wish that the US had more of the higher cut leg suits available. Again, I'll give a more accurate - for my body type (6'3" 185lbs fit) review after I've had some good time with them. My initial impression is that I like the Aussie suit more
Feel free to disagree and share YOUR thoughts on your favorite suits and why. We're all here for the same reason

I've found the non-Japan Asian-licensed suits by Speedo and Arena to be the best and mostly from Thailand. (at least the tags have Thai writing on them as well as English). They're briefer than U.S. but not as small as Japan and don't cost near as much as Japan. I've got them on Singapore ebay and U.S. ebay.
I have a U.S. Speedo Solar but I bot a medium and it was too big. A small would have worked okay I think. I'd like to try a higher cut narrow side suit if I could find one that fits.

It totally depends on the brand and the person. As an american I would agree lots of it sucks. American stuff is all made kind of modest and boxy. I will say that I'm a big fan of Asian cuts in swimwear but the quality and material is typically garbage (once again depending on the brand). Aussies make some of the best swimwear but they're often designed for well built men (just like I like my Australians

) but not us slimmer men who enjoy more of the bikini cut like myself. Often I have to look at specialty designers who design specifically for gay men, so not speedo and Nike. Although I have some speedos and nike suits I love.

I'm a bit confused here, I always thought that 99% of swimwear sold these days is made in the Asian countries and not the US or Australia etc?
