Square Cut Speedos

G'day guys,

As I promised earlier in the week, here are the square cut swimwear that I won from my speedo drawer.

- Red AussieBum, I like the lycra on these but they kinda feel like a bit of a wedgie in the bum. No drawstring, but the super wide waistband means they won’t come down in the surf.

- Black Nike shorts, not lycra but a nice light material. Unfortunately, these bunch up in the crotch for me so I don’t wear them much at all. I’d love to wear them as underwear but that bunching….

- Blue Intymen square cuts from my good mates at Mensuas.com – I actually asked the guys for a square cut and this is what they recommended. I actually like these the most, the lycra is thick and good quality, unfortunately, the sizing is super small and I can’t really wear these, at least not in public, I’m showing off a huge plumbers crack. I’m going to try and get them 2 sizes bigger and I think they will be perfect.

- Blue AussieBum’s are my most recent addition, I think they are called Old School. They are a really nice fit, I went a larger size because AussieBum just seems to get smaller and smaller (maybe I’m getting fatter and fatter). These are lycra, feel great, don’t bunch up too much.
Of course, I much prefer speedos and don’t think I’d really wear any of these at the pool. But, my theory is that maybe I can wear these to the beach with my mates and it will be more acceptable than speedos? I dunno?

If you are interested in any of these speedos – leave a comment, I might be interested in putting them up on eBay if anyone is interested.

I have that same Nike suit, and love it. I wear them around the house as shorts in the summer. I can't say I have had the same bunching problem with mine, though.

Maybe you should post some photos of you in them for us to judge. I had been feeling that the sizing had actually been getting slightly larger. Not a whole lot, but before I felt like a medium was too small, but a large would be too big. Now though the medium fits me perfectly.

Square cut has never worked for me. The top of the leg always works its way up and bunches up.
Have a swim buddy who wears them but sometimes wears a speedo and they look so much better on him.

When I was in my twenties, at Abercrombie and Fitch (A&F was a high priced sporting goods store back then--you could even buy safari gear), I bought a square cut that was imported from France. Very stretchy fabric that fit like a glove. Still, just as you say, Scottie, the legs bunched up. They also had a red speedo style suit from France. That suit was so hot. I wish I'd bought it. In today's money, though, they were expensive, like sixty or seventy dollars.

Mundo Unico square cuts work okay for me. They stay put.

Oh, and for the guys here that are from Chicago, that pool with a dome is attached to one of the condominiums at the east end of Randolph Drive, near the Outer Drive, the older mid-rise. That pool was so cool. The pool deck had a heated tile floor. In the winter, you'd be swimming in 80 degree water (same air temp), and it could be snowing outside. Heating the thing must have cost a fortune.

Thom, I have been in that pool. When I was a kid, my dad's coworker lived there and we went swimming there a few times. Very cool spot to swim.

Dan--Glad you got to use it! Not many pools like it. I got to join the club because I lived in the building. I still remember wearing my speedos and feeling warm with the radiant heat from the floor. The lifeguards, who were mostly college students, all wore speedos as well. I wasn't much older. I think I was 27 when I lived there.
