I'd say so. I've been going to the beach about 1-2 times a week for close to 10 years now and never noticed any at all. Last year I started wearing them. And last weekend finally saw someone else wearing them.
Glad you posted this about surfing in speedos. I previously saw a couple of posts here that said "it just isn't done" and was scratching my head as to why not and if I was making some mistake by doing so.

Ive only been to the beach once this year (it has rained 25 of the last 30 days now). At some NJ beaches, there are more speedos, but some still dont have any. I guess, it depends where you go.
