Maybe had something to do with the introduction of lycra? but even then it didn't happen immediately when they came on the market. Most vivid memory was seeing the underside of a guy's dick for the first time. High Def TV can't compare to the detail lycra provides.

I'm normally a side pointer. I'll start with it up, but it usually falls over after some time unless I get wood. Sometimes it ends up tucked. Don't like it there, that's how how it sometimes ends up (or down in thise case). I also recall the days when speedos were all nylon and an up was non existant. I was glad when the spendex speedos came out in the mid 80s. More comfortable and better pointability.

Aw, but they first showed up in stores in the mid 70s! I still remember finding a store that sold them and bought my first. I almost had to start wearing a jock again...
