500 speedo clad miles

Post by pburks » Wed Sep 03, 2025 7:23 pm

Just logged my 500th mile on my swim app (in the past 10ish years) this morning. All of them speedo/ square cut/ drag suit clad in my younger more in shape era (ok I may have tried jammers a time or two as well but obviously it didn't stick)! Thought I'd mention it here for celebration.

My current pool is just about in the heart of one of the main Chicago Gayborhoods so speedos aren't rare amongst lap swimmers but today I noticed two the only other two speedo wearers walked out to the pool deck still with on only to strip them on the deck before getting in the pool (indoor pool). They obviously went to the locker room first to drop things off and at least take off their shirts so I was a bit surprised the next time I looked in their directions they were in speedos and not the black shorts I saw them in last. I live a short walk from the pool so I usually put on my speedos before I walk over and strip down to them in the locker room only taking my swim things onto the pool deck leaving everything in a locker. Think this is a new trend of modesty or just a coincidence?

First, congratulations for your 500 miles mark! Very nice one!
Regarding the guys in speedos at the pool unfortunately I would say that is just modesty/prudeness...there are no coincidences in this field.
Despite speedos being a bit (still) usual for swimmers (even if they were surpassed by jammers and squares) in Europe, I assume that in US even if it is a swimming environment it can be tough to use them "freely". More if you are a newbie and never use them in public before...this to say that probably was one their first times using a speedo. If it was that the case it is an improvement after all and with the time they will grow confidence on them and staying in speedos from the the locker room.

yeah... I guess remembering back to my early days of wearing speedos I was a bit hesitant at first but still don't think I bothered with shorts onto the pool deck... oh well. Maybe my [mostly] confident wearing of briefs will help others do the same!

Definitely! "Mentoring" by example!
